Amazing Grace

Sandy and I saw the movie Amazing Grace this last weekend.  I highly recommend the movie as a thought-provoking examination of the Christian's role in the political process.  Much to my surprise, the film did not secularize the story, but rather wove the theme of Christ's saving grace throughout the whole movie.

Although the story of William Wilberforce is inspiring, the movie does point towards the idea that there is still much work left to do: ending the slave trade was only the beginning for the post-revolutionary era.  Much still remains towards correcting societal evils and injustice.  In our time, our generation will need to fight abortion, environmental abuse, social injustice, sexual slavery, and other societal evils which abuse and destroy the poorest and weakest amongst us.  Towards these ends, I hope and pray that Christians will take on their responsibilities within the political process.
